Palm Tree Removal and Trimming in Lake County FL
Palm trees are everywhere in Lake County and they need a different approach than other trees. JT’s Tree Removal has been trimming and removing palms across the county for 14 years. We know what they need and we know when they need to come down.
Drive through any neighborhood in Lake County and you will see palm trees in almost every yard. Queen palms lining driveways in Clermont. Sabal palms dotting lakefront properties in Tavares and Eustis. Cabbage palms growing wild along the edges of older lots in Leesburg and Lady Lake.
Palms look low-maintenance but they definitely are not. Left untrimmed they drop heavy dead fronds that can damage pool screens, dent cars, and create a mess in your yard after every storm. Let them go too long and the dead frond boots stack up into a thick skirt around the trunk that becomes a home for rats, wasps, and snakes.
Trim them too aggressively and you stress the tree, slow its growth, and actually make it weaker in high winds. Palm care is one of those things that looks simple from the outside but has a real right way and wrong way to do it.
We do it the right way. Free assessment, written quote, complete cleanup when the job is done.
Palm Tree Services We Provide Across Lake County Florida
Palm Tree Trimming and Frond Removal
Proper palm trimming removes dead, brown, and dying fronds while leaving the healthy green canopy intact. We do not remove green fronds. That is the most common mistake we see from homeowners trying to do this themselves or from crews that do not know palms. A palm with a full green crown is a healthy palm. A palm stripped down to a few fronds at the top is stressed and vulnerable.
Frond Boot Removal
When palm fronds die and fall off naturally they leave behind a woody base called a boot attached to the trunk. Over time these boots stack up and create a rough textured skirt around the trunk that collects debris and becomes a nesting spot for pests. We remove the boots cleanly to give your palms a smooth, maintained look and eliminate the pest habitat.
Palm Tree Removal
Sometimes a palm needs to come out entirely. A queen palm that has grown too close to your house. A sabal palm that has been hit by lethal bronzing disease. A cabbage palm that has simply gotten too big for the space it is in. We remove palms of all sizes completely so the area is clean and ready to use.
Fallen Palm Cleanup
Palms that come down in storms can be a bigger mess than you expect. A large queen palm lying across your yard or blocking your driveway after a storm is not a quick cleanup job. We haul everything off and grind the stump so you are not left dealing with a pile of palm debris on your own.
Palm Tree Species We Work With Throughout Lake County
Queen Palms
Queen palms are the most common palm we work on in Lake County. They grow fast, look great when maintained, and become a serious problem when they are not. They are also the most commonly over-trimmed palm in Florida. We trim them properly so they stay healthy and keep that full elegant canopy homeowners want.
Sabal Palms
The sabal palm is Florida’s state tree and one of the toughest palms in the county. They handle storms well when healthy and trimmed correctly. We trim sabal palms carefully because they are sensitive to improper cuts at the terminal bud.
Cabbage Palms
Cabbage palms are native to Florida and extremely common throughout Lake County. They require less maintenance than queen palms but still benefit from regular frond removal. Older cabbage palms can develop very large frond skirts that need to come off to keep the tree looking clean and to eliminate pest habitat.
Washingtonia Palms
Washingtonia palms grow very tall very fast. Once they get up there, trimming them is not a ladder job as it requires proper equipment and someone who knows what they are doing at that height. We handle tall Washingtonias regularly and have the bucket truck to do it safely.
Lethal Bronzing Disease
Lethal bronzing is a bacterial disease that has been spreading through Central Florida for years and Lake County has not been spared. It is spread by a tiny insect called a planthopper and once a palm is infected there is no cure. The disease progresses from the lower fronds upward and the tree dies within a few months of showing symptoms.
The signs to watch for are fronds that start browning from the tips and work toward the base, starting at the lower part of the canopy and moving up. If you have multiple palms on your property and one starts showing these signs get it assessed quickly. An infected palm needs to come down and be removed from the property to reduce the spread risk to your other trees.
If you are not sure whether your palms are healthy or showing signs of disease call us for a free assessment. We would rather help you catch a problem early than come back later for an emergency removal.

From estimate to completion, the experience was smooth and stress-free. Highly recommend JTS Tree Removal!Posted on Dan AndersonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I used JT and his crew twice while I owned my house in Florida. The first time JT gave me an estimate considerably less than two others I had gotten. Normally I would be worried about hiring someone coming in so much less, but JT was so nice and really knew what he was talking about. He and his crew showed up on time, did the work quickly and actually left the yard cleaner than when they showed up. They were all polite and a joy to talk to. Same thing the next year, on time, worked quickly, cleaned up completely and fun to talk to. I have since moved out of the area, but I highly recommend JT and his crew! Thank you JT!!

Palm Tree Questions
How often should palm trees be trimmed in Lake County?
Most palms do well with one trimming per year. The goal is to remove dead and brown fronds while leaving the healthy green fronds intact. Over-trimming is one of the most common mistakes we see and it does real damage to the tree over time.
Is it bad to trim a palm tree too much?
Yes. Over-trimming removes healthy fronds the tree needs to feed itself and stay strong. It creates a weak crown that is actually more vulnerable in storms. A properly trimmed palm keeps a full healthy canopy with only the dead and brown fronds removed.
How deep does stump grinding go?
Yes. Queen palms are one of the most common removals we do in Lake County. They grow fast, they fall in storms, and many homeowners want them out when they start getting too close to structures. We remove them completely including full stump grinding if needed.
Can you remove a full grown queen palm?
The grinding process produces wood chips that can be used as mulch in your yard or hauled off completely. We leave that choice up to you. Either way we clean up the area before we leave.
What is lethal bronzing disease and should I be worried?
Lethal bronzing is a bacterial disease that has killed many palms across Central Florida including Lake County. It starts with browning of the lower fronds and moves upward. There is no cure once a palm is infected and removal is the only option. If you see unusual browning on your palms get them assessed quickly.
